Atalaia is an outer sea beach, in the area of the Marine National Park, being the only beach on the island that has the access controlled by IBAMA. Only 100 people are allowed per day, divided in four groups of 25 people, each group staying only 20 minutes. Visitation allowed everyday according to a schedule issued by IBAMA, always in low tide. It is a natural swimming pool, formed by a coral reef, where you can find almost all of the local species. It is considered the nursery of Fernando de Noronha.
To preserve the area the use of sunscreen or fins are not allowed, nor is contact with the coral. There are two ways to get there, the first one is by car from Sueste Beach, where the number of visitors is controlled by IBAMA - it is highly recommended to arrive at least one hour before the time schedule to guarantee your visitation. The other way is through Caieira - Atalaia trail, about 4.5km in length leaving from Enseada das Caieiras, coasting the island by the outer sea up to Atalaia Beach.
